Busy weekend for Aces athletes in Abbotstown and Castleblaney.


Three athletes travelled from Carrickmacross to the National Cross Country Finals in Abbotstown representing the Monaghan team in the u14 3000-meter race. In what were sticky conditions our athletes performed well in a very competitive race. Odhran Smith was first home for the Aces in 97th followed by Ronan Markey in 139th and Joshua Campbell in 147th. Much experience was gained and well-done boys.

Later in the morning our juveniles and seniors made the short trip to Castleblaney for a 2km and 5km race. First up was the juvenile 2km race. 8 athletes started on the line. First home was Maeve Smith (9th) who was first in the u10 girls category, followed by Conor O’Reilly (23rd ), Eunan McMahon (26th), Aine Smith (29th), Ryan Flynn (66th), John Woods (69th), Cillian Flynn (74th) and Peter Woods (103rd). Well done to all.

Later in the afternoon, a large number of aces Senior ran the 5km. The race was won by Aces Yared Derese in a course record time of 14.33min. He was followed by Shane Connolly (3rd in m40 category) in a personal best of 17.45min. Other personal bests were achieved with 8 Aces athletes running under 20mins.
