Great day for Seniors and Juveniles in Glaslough

A large number of senior and juveniles made the annual trip to glaslough for the 40 th running of the glaslough harriers 5km and juvenile races.

Over 25 juveniles aged from 6 to 14 participated in the juvenile program. First up was the u8 200m races where we have 2 girls and 2 boys. All performed great in what was for many their first race. Jacob Ashford ran a great race to finish 3 rd overall with Finnian Donnelly 10 th to grab a coveted medal. Next up was the u10’s race which moved up to 400m. We had 3 girls and 3 boys in both races. Aine Smith ran a great race to finish 3 rd overall. There were other great performances by our other athletes in what was a tough uphill course. The distance moved up to 800 meters for the u12 race and incorporated a full lap. 7 girls lined up for the race where Maeve Smith finished a strong second followed by Ellen Bateson in 9 th . In the boys race Oisin Donnelly lead the 3 aces athletes home to finish 7 th . We had a few athletes who completed in the u14 one Km race. There were good performances by all in what was a tough hilly course. Last up we had one athlete Odhran Smith who complete the 2 km race which involved 2 ½ laps of the town course. He finished 4 th overall.

With the juvenile race over the focus moved to the senior 5km race. In what was a large field of over 200 athletes Yarad Derese came home first in a course record time of 14:24. He was followed by Darragh Scott in what was a PB time of 17:04 and Paudi Martin 18:36. Our first female home was Eithne Mc Gorman in a time of 19:57 followed by Ciara Larney 20:20 and Ann O’Rourke 21:27. Our Senior men’s team finished 1 st overall winning the John O’Reilly Cup for the first time and our ladies team finished 2 nd overall.
